This is an article about a small town in Oregon that had a conversational drill. Two staff members entered into a teacher's staff meeting at the Pine Eagle Charter School on Friday with guns shooting out blanks. After noticing that none of these bullets were drawing blood, the teachers realized that this was all just a drill to keep them aware of their actions during a school shooting. Many teacher's became aware after the drill of how they would react in a tragic situation like this. This drill left some teachers to reevaluate their actions and make a better plan of what they would do during a situation like this. So what do you think? Should more schools have drills like this one? Or is it not right to surprise teachers with a terrifying drill simulating a school shooting ?
*Please keep in mind that it was the children's day off and no kids witnessed this drill. (Amy Bartolotta)
Wow gun drills? Seems like a scary concept. My first concern was that children witnessed the events, but as I kept reading I learned that it was just for faculty. However, this is clearly a terrifying situation. I understand that you won't know how to react to a shooting unless you actually are living through it, but I don't know if this is the best way. It seems completely bizarre to me, but it would allow the teachers to experience the trauma of the event without being injured...
