National Jazz Day

YesterdayApril 30th, was National Jazz day, so my friends and I went to Shepard Recital Hall here on campus after an invite form my jazz guitar teacher. He invited us to come see him and a few other faculty members play some jazz tunes. Upon arrival we found that the band was going to play at a much later time and we had a presentation on Jazz to sit through before then. My friends dropped like flies throughout the 45 minute presentation on the history of jazz, but I stayed, and u really enjoyed what I heard. This guy Marc Myers gave the presentation, complete with clips of jazz and bebop tunes as examples of the music’s evolution with time. Little did I know, Marc is a seriously credentialed dude. Turns out Marc Myers is an American journalist, author, and historian, and a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal, where he writes on music and the arts.
I realize that so far, I am just writing a diary entry, so here is the media aspect of this. I am relatively new to blogs, and I didn’t know that there were blogs solely dedicated to music, but Marc has one, and that is what I want my post to be about.

As said on the blog:

JazzWax

At just a quick glance of Marc’s blog, one can learn of several Jazz Greats from the 1930’s and now, as well as a brief history of them, and probably an in depth interview with them.

Marc writes in an easy to read, fairly interesting way, which attracts even non-jazz enthusiasts.

Each day he changes his focus. I find it interesting how he finds the time to interview all of these people as he does, and also keep up with his activity in his wall street journal contributions!
